PTSI’s New York Pre-service Curriculum provides a comprehensive approach to the NYSED required initial training for drivers and attendants who will be transporting children.

The Instructor Guide is a manual that provides the content, including the PowerPoint slides and instructor notes and discussion points to use when delivering this classroom training.

The curriculum provides for two separate formats:

• Combined: This 6.75 hour curriculum is very comprehensive in addressing the initial training that prepares the driver and attendant for their role and responsibilities in transporting students, including students with disabilities.

This curriculum allows the instructor to teach both drivers and attendants in the same classroom. It is important for drivers to know everything that an attendant must know, so creating a combined curriculum just makes sense! The driver and attendant may receive double certificates of completion for this training. Double certificates allow your driver to be certified to substitute as an attendant if you become short staffed. For the attendant, it sets the stage for them to take the next career step in becoming a driver, should this be part of their plan.

• Attendant (only): This 6 hour curriculum is also very comprehensive in addressing the initial training that prepares the attendant for their role and responsibilities in transporting students, including students with disabilities. This curriculum allows the attendants to focus questions and dialog solely on the role of the attendant. Each attendant receives a certificate of completion.
